A view of what will eventually be the center of the town of La Vista, Nebraska. Back in the 1970s, La Vista was founded on the edge of the rapidly growing city of Omaha. The founders really expected La Vista to be absorbed by Omaha, so they never had a downtown. (City Hall was on the side of the community center.) Well, through the years Omaha offended the State government with its massive land grabs, so laws were passed that cities can't annex land in other counties without the State's approval. La Vista was just on the other side of the county line. Years later, La Vista decided it has to become a real town, so when Wal-Mart moved out, they bought the land and are now creating their own modern city. You can see City Hall, with the dome top, on the left being constructed.
