These peppers almost look like jellybeans, though I'm sure they are of the spicy variety (I didn't sample). Found in the Lauritzen Gardens last August.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I clipped a copy to show to my gourmet-minded son (who cooks extravagant meals for fun~killer bar-be-cue, grilled pizzas of unique ingredients, wings so good that battles have been fought over them, etc.). Your macro shows them in perfect presentation; tack-sharp with individual peppers appearing to be in different stages of ripeness. Excellent.

Okay, these are Black Pearl pepper, characterized by distinctive black leaves and fruit. It was developed by Arboretum Floral and Nursery Plants Research Unit scientists Rob Griesbach and John Stommel of the Agricultural Research Service*s Vegetable Laboratory. Though edible (the flavor has a citrus undertone with a slow burn between 4 and 12 times hotter than a jalapeno on the Scoville Scale), it is considered an ornamental plant and even won an award for its beauty from All-Americas Selections in 2006.

So there. ;o]
