Smile, without a reason why. Love, as if you were a child, Smile, no matter what they tell you Don't listen to a word they say Cause life is beautiful that way. (From the film "Life Is Beautiful")
To a duck hunter, this bird is the least likely to end up on the table, possibly why there's so dang many of them. Their choice of food leaves a horrible taste to the flesh and their response to danger is so limited, hunters consider them the true "bird brains" of the bird community. Many years ago, back when I used to hunt, I once saw a hunter shoot at a small group of them in the water, thinking they were mallards (the light was low). Seeing buckshot splashes within and around the group, I thought they'd be in the air immediately, but they weren't. Instead they paddled in circles, comically looking at each other as if to say, "Did you hear something?" They simply wouldn't take flight and they didn't appear injured, they just continued to paddle. The lights were on but nobody was ever at home. Oy!
