The Pier Head area of the Liverpool Waterfront is a World Heritage Site and is dominated by The Three Graces. These are, The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and The Port of Liverpool Building, which is shown here.
The large ,white, stone tower behind The Port of Liverpool Building is a ventilation shaft for The Queensway Mersey Tunnel, usually called either The Old Tunnel or The Birkenhead Tunnel.Interestingly, this wonderful, stone-built,Art Deco designed building and ventilation shaft (opened 1934) performs the same function as the far more utilitarian structure shown Here (opened in 1971).
