On August 18th, 2022 I was in Middelburg, Zeeland, The Netherlands. Being there, I initially couldn't believe my eyes: I thought to see a, in the summertime, skating person on one of Middelburg's canals, using two rear view mirrors for proper maneuvering. To me this scene was considered as a manic situation, hence it's my contribution for Manic Monday (M²) this week!

On closer look however, I discovered that this was a sculpture for the contemporary art festival 'Façade 2022'.

The sculpture was created by the Dutch artist Anne-Marie van Sprang and is named 'To Reflect'.

Anne-Marie says: "In 2017, the white statue was mirrored in the semicircular Prins Hendrikdok at the Dam in Middelburg. Now, 'To Reflect' is being shown again. This time, it's placed in the basin of the Herengracht canal. What we see is a human figure with gracefully swaying arms. It holds mirrors in both hands. I made the statue in 2017, on the occasion of that year's theme 'Face your Freedom', reflecting on the freedom we live in. At that time, this was urgent, and it seems even more urgent nowadays. In 2017, man was central, it was about turning vulnerability into strength. That is what I'm aiming for in all my artwork. To me, the four freedoms are interconnected, and, fortunately, have been so all my life."

I really like this sculpture, "skaking,"in the river. And, following your link I found a picture of a table and chairs, with a stand-up pole lamp, on the side of a building that was very unique. Maybe you got a shot of it for Wacky Wednesday?

John, a good idea. I photographed the scene with furniture on a side wall of the building. I'll have to see if it will be a suitable contribution for Wacky Wednesday (W²) in due course.

If you think you can't accept something, try to change it. But if this doesn't work, don't be frustrated, but give it later another try. The one who perseveres wins! Please CLICK HERE to see my journal! Feel free to save my images or to add them to your favorites.

A nice wide-angle view. Now we need a closeup. Brillant colors and a blue sky are nice to see.
