Depicted is the interior of the 'Stadsfeestzaal' (City banquet hall). It's a neoclassical building from 1908 and is located on the Meir, the main shopping street in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. The banquet hall has a rather unique metal construction as the span for that time.

For a long time it was one of the best-known halls in Antwerp, which housed art exhibitions, the Antwerp Antiques Fair, the book fair, the motor show and various parties. In 1983 the building was classified as a protected monument. On December 27th, 2000, a severe fire destroyed almost the entire building and hardly anything was left of it. In 2004 the city council decided for the reconstruction of the banquet hall. On October 25th, 2007, the completely renovated 'Stadsfeestzaal' reopened its doors to the public, this time as a luxurious shopping center. The glass dome with gold leaf, the staircase, the original decorations, sculptures, mosaics, wall reliefs and oak parquet floor have been rebuilt faithfully to the original. The marble in the main hall comes from the same quarry as the marble originally placed in the hall.

A good idea to reconstruct the building. Too many buildings might not receive the same care.
