This artwork, called 'Mollywood' is created by Raul Balai, an artist coming from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for the occasion of the Façade 2022 festival. The artist has deliberately placed this artwork in front of the municipal office in Middelburg, Zeeland, The Netherlands. It consists of a total of 53 letters along the 'Canal through Walcheren'. Each letter is 3 meters (about 10 feet) high. The letters form a sentence that reads: 'HOW OUR EXPLOITATIVE STATE OF MIND FRAMES THE SHAPE OF THE WORLD'.

Raul Balai says: "Here, it is all about prestige. You can see the system of exploitation being reflected. The canal as a connection to the other side of the world refers to colonialism. My work often touches on that theme. But I don't want to link exploitation only to that. There are two archetypes in Dutch society: the merchant and the minister. The merchant always wins, unfortunately. We must move towards a system in which money isn't being put over people."

By the way: happily, the ancient naval cannon isn't pointed into a direction of the artwork, so it doesn't pose a threat to the artwork, else it would be a contribution for Manic Monday (M²).

PS: I can't rule out that 'Mollywood' is a Middelburg persiflage of the iconic Hollywood sign.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Very interesting art and like the reflections in the canal. Also like the fabulous capture and detail, plus the cobble stone.

Do you know how old that cannon is, just wondering

Pat, I don't know the exactly age of this cannon, but I suppose that it was cast between 1571 - 1862.
My supposition is based on this Wiki-article

If this was in the United States, C., I would think that this was an attempt to protect a political statement, one party versus the other. I know, political positions are not welcome on this site but, the way things are today, and how we are conditioned by our environment, it is a challenge not to see this shot as anything else. I think it would fit as well in the Photojournalism category.
