Set in 350 acres of ancient woodland, Ashford Castle is now a 5 star resort and regularly hosts royalty, dignitaries and celebrities. It is most definitely out of my price range. I was however allowed to walk around the grounds and gardens.

I'm glad you were allowed to explore the grounds, I bet the inside is something to see as well. Nice composition on this splendid post.

Frank, although the previous one was a more colorful composition, this one gives us a better view of this impressive castle.
Unless you've a return ticket to fly back to Australia, after paying spending some nights there, think you would have forced to stay in Ireland ☺.

Back in 2001 my wife and I were visiting Mackinaw Island in Michigan's Lake Huron. We were staying in affordable lodgings on the mainland and found that on the island, only guests of the Grand Hotel were allowed inside (they even had a sign and a nice young lady at the end of the sidewalk preventing us tourists from trespassing). I got around that by asking her for a brochure so I could bring my wife back for our anniversary. I have yet to do that but I did get a glimpse of the lobby.

Now that would be a fabulous place to stay, love the scene and outstanding shot - the glass in part on the right looks like it would be a wonderful restaurant - I can guess this place could tell us some history and maybe even haunted
