Stirling Castle, is one of the largest and most important castles, both historically and architecturally, in Scotland. It is surrounded on three sides by steep cliffs, giving it a strong defensive position. Most of the principal buildings of the castle date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. A few structures of the fourteenth century remain, while the outer defences fronting the town date from the early eighteenth century. Several Scottish Kings and Queens have been crowned at Stirling, including Mary, Queen of Scots, in 1542. There have been at least eight sieges of Stirling Castle, including several during the Wars of Scottish Independence, with the last being in 1746, when Bonnie Prince Charlie unsuccessfully tried to take the castle.

Excellent angle for this capture. I find it so interesting of what it had to take back in the early days to build such structures as this. Lots of wonderful history behind this one, good job Frank.tigs=^..^=

T'would make a great movie set. I appreciate the historical information you're providing with these castle images of yours, having just retired from the field myself. In the past I've had some members whine about long posts that describe the submitted photo further. Pay no attention to them.

I've checked out this link to know more about this impressive castle. Very interesting! Think it's even more interesting one can see this in real. For this reason, I envy you, frank, ☺ .
Wonderful capture though!

Quite a history at this one Frank - Mary Queen of Scots crowned there. My country is so new in comparison it just boggles the mind a bit.
