......awwww he's such a sweet little Aussie bird! A young girl at the Bird of Prey centre was carrying him around perched on her hand and he was more than happy for me to stroke his back!

Sorry I haven't been posting lately. Been lazy(?). I have been looking at your postings though, even if I haven't commented as much as I would like.

no his wings had not been clipped - none of them are at this centre. He had a small anchor strap around his ankle, but do not worry they are really cared for well and they have a big open field where they fly the larger birds - I watched a display and will post pictures later - even the bald eagle was flying!

♫♫Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be ♫♫
LOL..so now I know what they actually look like since I dont think there are any around here! Great shot of him Patti! C):-)

I have to agree about the wise guy expression-again, what a personality! I just love how you can tell so much about them by their eyes. Beautiful picture!
*You will have noticed that I haven't been commenting as much on your fine images!..This is because of the pains in my hands!..the constant use of the keyboard, makes this difficult..so, my dear friends..I can only apologise to you all in advance!*

Well Dan stole my thinder - here I was all ready to give a stunning redition of kookaburra sits in an old gum tree etc. Oh my goodnes we did it in 'rounds' at school :)
Great shot Patti, your expertise shining through. For an Aussie bird he's not bad looking either.
I hope there was a kiwi there.
i love this and the memory you evoked for me!
when my babes were wee ones-
we watched Gullah Gullah Island-
and one of our faves was the tune-
"Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree...",
and i couldn't remember the rest...
thank you Dan!
and thank you Patti!
faves!!
Beautiful, expressive shot Patti. The soft focus on the feathers works extremely well, but I'm not convinced about it for the beak and the eye. I guess you can't have it all!
Hi Patti,
Great shot indeed! When I eventually get round to sorting out my 'memory sticks' full of shots from my antipodean holiday, I will share with you some of the pics i took of the wild Kookaburras invading my brother-in-laws garden :-)
Thanks for bringing back happy memories Patti.

Great shot of our laughing friend. I was surprised when I first found out that Kookaburras are form the Kingfisher family. They don't eat too many fish as far as I know, but they have a great reputation for swooping low over the barbie and stealing sausages.
