...well for the first time in two weeks, I have been able to go into Derbyshire again. The weather improved for a few hours today, so I headed for the Upper Derwent Water Reservoirs. The one you see here is called Ladybower Reservoir (completed in 1945) and she has a sad history - two villages once stood on this spot - the villages of Ashopton and Derwent :( The buildings in Ashopton were demolished before the reservoir was filled, but much of the structure of Derwent village was still visible during a dry summer some fourteen years later, especially the church clock tower, which has since been dismantled. an interesting history, but no doubt that the views over the reservoirs are quite beautiful - the reservoirs stretch for many miles, so I will be returning when the weather improves. sooo glad they had a visitors centre that sold yummy cakes and hot drinks - if you ever visit watch out for the ducks - I had twenty or thirty after my piece of cake!!! lol! - edited - OK they were chasing me - they were not on the menu!! LOL!

There was a book and a movie about the damming of river to form lake, reservoir several years ago. It was Deliverance. Hope this one turned out better. Kinda sad when you think of whole town being flooded. I like the photo because of the clarity and the view. Good post Patti.

Wow how could you eat that many ducks? And after cake too.

You've spooked me out with the story - really adds to the atmosphere of this place. It looks like a piece of sheet metal placed in the landscape in your picture, I wonder what it was like when the village was there...I bet you that on a dark night and a full moon you can still hear the bells ringing from the church beneath the surface. Very fine shot Patti.

Thanks to all my friends for the wonderful images I get to look at and learn from on Caedes every day. I always have something to say about them, but don't always have the time to record it. Please forgive me if I can't comment on all of your uploads.

Well, I hope the ghosts of Christmasses past don't rise outta there in a couple of weeks. We have a similar situation over at Moore Dam where a complete town was flooded out and every spring you'll find some flotsam from the town below.

It looks so calm and peaceful. A beautiful scene, looks a very calm day.

Sad the villages had to go -Progress I suppose. A town not too far away from us was flooded for a lake to feed a dam - hyro power to the people.

I'm sorry... I'm really sorry... but I just can't resist it. You ate 20 or 30 ducks? Presumably they must have been on cream quackers!

Great shot by the way! Lol!
