If one drives up the Oregon coastline, she/he can find a series of lighthouses all along the way, letting all those poor wayfaring strangers on the ocean know where the danger lies. Heceta Head, near Florence, Oregon, USA.
That would be one heckuva place to live. Not helluva... heckuva... as in, "Where do I sign up?" Thanks for the great visual trip advisory, Ted; the Oregon coast is on my bucket list.
If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.
Wow, it looks so small facing the great expanse of the Pacific, doesn't it?
I like the arrowhead formation of the focal in the angle of your shot. It's visually dramatic and captivating.
I'm curious about the object that's partway down that front, green hill. It looks like a picnic table, but you'd have to repel to get to it. Did you get a look at it?
---letting all those poor wayfaring strangers on the ocean know where the danger lies---
In the past lighthouses were for seamen a necessity to survive the sometimes severe conditions along the coastlines, but nowadays, with all the new communication possibilities, they've become almost superfluous. If they are still in use, it's mainly for safety back-up reasons. Hope however that they'll remain in a good shape, because they aren't only a kind of heritage but can provide us with splendid views/captures like this one.
Thanks for sharing it, Ted. You did a great job!
PS: didn't know that I was a poor wayfaring stranger during my former career, ☺ ☺ ☺ .
