FOR SURE VIEW THIS ONE FULL FRAME this is a picture of kauai sand. if you look in the middle you'll see a round white shell with a hole in the middle. it's known as a puka shell. actually the word puka means hole but puka shell has evolved as it's most well known name. puka shells are the tops of old cone shells which have been worn down and have had a hole appear in the middle. people collect puka shells for necklaces which they string. look all over the picture and you'll see lots more of these. ever wonder where puka shells come from????? thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions which i so enjoy reading.

This is different. Sure a lot of stuff in there. Nice work. Puka shells come from the ocean. Little clams get sick and puka their shells.

What an amazing shot of sand, of all things. That is wonderful and I see the little shells. Never mind Jerry.

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

The original puka necklaces were fashioned from naturally occurring worn parts of cone shells, the Conidae. There are over 500 species of cone shells in the tropical seas of the world; the majority come from the Indo-Pacific. The conidae is poison i understand, Love this image Jen, Best wishes, Dwight.

I love this type of photo and this one is particularly well done. Like I'm there on the beach staring at what the ocean leaves on the shore every day. Very good textural piece, Jen.

Very nice presentation Jen, I love the lighting, texture and colors and the interesting writeup. Don't they also use puka shells in some of the lei necklaces? I can't recall for sure but I think I've gotten one or two. It's a great post and thanks for sharing it today.

Makes a very good texture background Jen. It would make a great filter too! I can see the shell you are pointing out - they must make very pretty necklaces. Patti

Great texture shot. Better keep your sandles on. I don't know if that would be pleasant to bare feet.
