Cameras are like people--sometimes they lose focus.
There is some first class detail here, my dear. love that neck and the striped coloring on it. The pelican's pose is good and the detail in the body feathers is spot on. The background is a little distracting. This bird would be easy to "select" in PS and then invert and then blur the background down to where it isn't so distracting.

Saw recently on my TV some brown pelicans who had become victim of the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
