I thought this gent dressed all in buckskins made for an interesting photo. He was part of the chuckwagon cook off they had at this festival. Everything had to be cooked over a campfire using cookware at least similar to what they used in the old west days. Many delicious foods were cooked up this way using dutch ovens, cast iron pots & pans, etc. some of which you can see here. Unfortunately I got no other shots of the cookoff. Oh well..next year I guess! lol Thanks everyone!!

Darn it Dan, I was wrong LOL. I bet he's sweating bullets under this buckskin outfit.I can imagine the food smelled delicious while it was cooking didn't it. I don't know why it is ,but food cooked outside like this always tastes better doesn't it? Excellent clarity in this. He must be reading a Cook book :)

I certainly hope he knows how to handle that blade beside him stuck in that stump!! Interesting handle on it, btw. This is such a clear photo, as have been all of yours of late, and there are very many alluring objects for us to see because of it. I like the array of cast iron cooking pots line up in the foreground of the post. I still use cast iron..swear by it. His buckskins look buttery soft, well cared for and elaborate in design. so....what did you have to eat? :)PJ

Great job Dan, you got a knack with the kodak.LOL This is really enjoyable to get a look back into the past and see just how things really were 150 yrs or so ago. Not that long when you think about it, sure has been a whirlwind of change since then and I'm not so sure it's all good either.LOL We try and make our lives easier with progress so we have more free time and what do we do with it ? Try and get away from everything we created and get back to nature where our hearts are. Don't make much sense to me Dan??? Super job, I'm tradin' ya favs today buddy, this un goin' into mine. Thanks my friend. J

Without our natural landscapes and animals this country would be boring. Let's try to help to preserve such treasures.

An excellent shot Dan of a time when things were much simpler. To see this guy dressed in his buckskin outfit & then cooking up some food in a cast iron kettle over an open fire would have been fun to watch. There are several groups in my area that get together for a "Rendezvous" with their tee-pee's & dressed up in buckskins or clothing from the 1980's. Of course they bring their horses & pet's with them along with their crafts. A fun time as well. Thanks so much for this post.

This is wonderful to see, Dan. I agree, simplier times - but no computer, no digital cameras ... hmmm ... Maybe we could strike a compromise ... clone in a Dell there! LOL I love this photo!

Nice image. So did he sit there like that ALL day? Good lighting on this. You captured the mood of what he was trying to project very well! Jodie

that's what I like to see - a man doing the cooking!! :) Nice capture Daniel - especially as he seems totally unaware that you are taking the photograph, which makes for a really natural looking scene. well done! Patti

Great shot Dan. Love all the clear detail in this. Would have liked to have seen him wearing that hat lying on the floor. Can't help but smile at some of the gals comments about a man cooking. If I had to depend on my cooking to survive ... they would have buried me years ago. :o)

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

Everything is period 'cept for the filtered cigarette in his hand. He's should be smokin' a rollie! I like the buckskin colors in this one. They're bright yet subdued and easy on the eye. Not to mention the interest--one could snoop around his campsite for a spell, finding many novel items. Well done and a photo I'm sure most are glad that you shared :)

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand. ~Margery Williams The Velveteen Rabbit~
