This little butterfly almost went unnoticed in the shadows of this evergreen tree. I was actually trying to get a shot of a bird when I spotted him. His camouflage was working pretty well! :)

What a perfect capture of this guy, are you sure it isn't a moth, kinda ugly colours for a butterfly.

Terrific shot, Dan! Wow, what a great find. You go out looking for one thing and find something else. That's happened to me too. This butterfly really has great camouflage and you have captured him very well so we can all see him now! LOL

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Thanks everyone, and I did some searching on the net. As near as I can tell this is called a "tortoise shell butterfly". Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ! C):-)

This almost look as if a fossil is hanging there in the tree. You have proven a good eye for an imazing capture.

this is gorgeous Daniel and one of your best ever photographs - it is on my desktop and in my favourites! I love the focus on the butterfly or moth and the blurriness behind him - very subtle and all the colours blend ....... I am just trying to say I like it a lot!
