I know.. I know.. but give me a break...this is my first attempt at a bird pic with my new equipment. I was twice as far away as I should have been because I have not created a rapport with my subjects..so I had to do a lot of cropping to get this bird's eye view. My apologies to the great birders on Caedes, but hey..we all have to start somewhere, and I bet all you greats had to start at the beginning :) any and all suggestions would be more than appreciated, welcomed, I promise I won't cry..give it to me straight :)

:)PJ

Well, I'm not a great 'birder', in fact, I've never taken a picture of a bird like this before, but I'd say you''re off to a terrific start with this first attempt, PJ. He's just lovely and I know with a few more attempts, you'll be posting the likes of a Gregg or John or Gerry bird pic and be in league with Caedes 'birders'..

Here's a suggestion PJ..try sunflower seeds next time. Oh..you mean the picture?! lol I like it! Excellent clarity and great colors! Looks like he's staring right down your lens. Great job PJ. Here's to a future great Caedes birder! C):-)

What Are you kidding? That's a great capture! Don't be blue "J"! All that I would've done diffrent is pull back just a little on the crop but that's just me and you know I'm certainly no professional! Seems to me you're doing very well with your new equipment! You couldn't have been THAT far away. : )

You don't need to apologise to anyone, PJ. The expert "Birders" have to just accept some competition! Great shot for a first one, I must say. I tried to snap a Magpie a couple of days ago - It was almost impossible because he kept jumping about. So, patience I suppose is what one needs here. I have never been an angler:)

As a good composition you cannot ask for more, the picture works well and keeps the viewer in the picture. I found it a little out of focus, other than that you get very high marks from me. You have taken up a difficult 'sport'. Keep up the good work.

So this "Bluejay" is your first attempt with new equipment ? ... and do I understand you to be apologetic ? And finally you want a "break". LOL Is to laugh dear woman ... it's a fine clear shot of this beautiful blue bandit. If this is a sample of what lies ahead the only break I'm considering ... is "breaking" your new equipment. With all your cropping Pat this is still a good capture. I agree with what you are saying. When I first started shooting widlife and birds, which I mainly got into photography for, I found that I did need a longer lens. One other thing you need is lots of patience..birds do not sit still very long and are as a rule very skitterish around humans.. keep at it...they are beautiful and worth the effort....gerry
