Since she's a brunette, the green was a good choice, its color temperature on the cool side without being icy like a blue. So is the colorized one an enlargement of the left one or did the photographer simply bring the lens in closer?

Rob, I like to agree with 'Nik' that the colors are perfectly chosen. The result of your editing (colorization, a tad improvement/enhancing, and enlarging) is that it shows like a recently taken portrait (as if the lady is wearing old-fashioned clothes only for the photo shoot, ☺).
A professional couldn't do this any better!
