Rasputin? Is that you? (No, not you, Rob, I was talking to a guy who was poisoned, shot dead, and thrown into a river 100 years ago.)

Glad to know that I wasn't the only one to immediately think of Rasputin in old age. Not that he got to old age. And worse was done to him than just being poisoned, shot, and thrown in a river. Another Russian comes to mind too, the painting of Ivan the Terrible after he's just murdered his son. The look of crazed, haunted grief in Ivan's eyes as he cradles his son's body is reminiscent of this character's gaze. Just a little though, Ivan was really around the bend. This portrait also brings to mind the obsession with big, mangy beards at the time. When men having facial hair was almost mandatory. That, and the dead eyed, thousand yard stare of a combat vet.

Rob, I've check-out the link in your narrative and saw on the original B&W version that it was given the title of Mrs. Willison. Think this was a mistake, because I've seen much prettier ladies (without beard however, ☺ ) in your fabulous series. When I take the comments from 'Nik' and Russ for granted, there's an intriguing story behind this poisoned guy.
A very valuable addition to the series, my friend! Excellent work per usual!

Mr Willison looks like Old Father Time. He has very nice eyes though. I think he is much younger than the beard makes him look.
Perfectly coloured Rob

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
