Such a fun post to view and read Rob. It's like finding an old newspaper or magazine hidden in a box and spending the rest of the day devouring it. Your colorization again brings an ordinary photo to life.
The Postmaster had a government job when jobs were hard to find. Grover Benson or Benson Grover also had a job when times were hard. His was robbery. 😁
National Aviation Day was established by FDR in 1939 on August 19th which was Orville Wright's Birthday. FDR also started the Social Security Administration for the United States. All this while trying to end the depression, stay out of a war and finally winning that war. It was quite a time in the history of the USA.
A fave for me.

Rob, I like to say thanks not only to you for your perfectly done colorization, but to Tick as well for his comment.
You both have in common being able to give an old B&W photograph a deepening dimension. Kudos for both of you!

Nice to see a picture by the amazing Marion Post Wolcott, one of the Farm Security Administration's most prolific and iconic photographers. The quaintness of these pre-WWII scenes are also tinged with a kind of defeated sadness caused by years of the Great Depression. And Appalachia was Ground Zero for some of the worst effects of that economic crime perpetrated by Wall Street. And it wouldn't be the last.
