Here is some information on this impressive vessel. We did not go on it, but sure enjoyed watching it.

Currently, the ship shuttles between Ludington, Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, a distance of 62 miles (100 km) , connecting U.S. Highway 10 (US 10) between those two cities. It is the last coal-fired passenger vessel operating on the Great Lakes, and was designated a National Historic Landmark on January 20, 2016.

Tonage 4,244 gross tons, length 410 ft 6 in./Installed power-steam-coal fired/ Propulsion two 4 cylinder skinner unaflow steam engines, speed 24mph max. cruise 18mph. /Can hold 620 passengers, 180 automobiles, tour buses, RV's, motorcycles, and commercial trucks.

I'm posting two images of it today.

Well timed shot with the lighthouse just in front of the bow of the ship.It must be one of the very few coal fired ships still in dienst.

Beautiful composition Tigz. I would love to take a journey on this ship.
The addition of the Lighthouse and the people give this wonderful perspective.

Another wonderful capture - Manitowoc was always a stop for us on the way to Door County. Enjoy the UP!

Thanks for this fine image with accompanying interesting narrative, Sandi. With respect to the year in she was built, this lady is an oldie. As Raj already has said in his comment, this this steamer (using a coal heated boiler) is one of the last or last ones of her generation.
As old salt, this images create to a certain extent a nostalgic feeling to me.

OMG! I seriously wonder if this is the same ferry I was on in the photo I posted last week?? Very possible! I am sure if one really wanted they could find out from my photo, but I can only assume. Great shot, thanks for sharing!
