After SAW, aka Mesmerized did this fine image for me, I thought I would do another Drive-In.

This one is in Macon, Missouri and this is all that remains. The Screen has been gone for years. I think it was Gone With The Wind in a storm years ago. The ticket office (front) and the snack bar/projection booth (back) still remain. I am surprised since they are just rotting away. The fence, that kept people from just walking in, remains as well. I have several different shots of this place including a closeup of the dilapidated snack bar. Personally this is my favorite because is shows how it has deteriorated; not only to the eye, but to the mind and heart. It was a way to spend a summer night at the movies. Trees have grown and the grass remains green in the summer, but the rest of the memory is slowly fading away. I gave some thought to using black/white or other techniques to enhance the deterioration, but this is how it looks and it is real. Enjoy.

In the same manner that elements of society that were popular in the past are sometimes "discovered" anew by young people, who have no idea of the history of their discovery, I expect that some 20-something will "invent" outdoor movie theaters. At age 64 I have many great memories of watching movies in this manner, our "Starlight Theatre" now being replaced by storage rental structures, an aluminum specialties shop, and an auction warehouse.... I much preferred the theatre. A nice look back, Ron. I'm guessing from the antiquity of the place this one wasn't the radio-transmitted sound sort of theater but rather the speakers-on-a-post variety, the posts and speakers having been long removed. The dirt ramps for the front wheels of the vehicles are still there, though, overgrown with grass.

I miss going to drive-in theaters. Loved the whole date: the young lady accompanying, the nearly recent movie playing, the snack bar, the inevitable drop in temperature expediting the need to cuddle. Ah yes, youth and the joys of the big screen adventure. Thanks for the memory, Tick.

Thanks again, Tick, for the mention and the invite to the drive-in movie...I hope to go back there sometime to see another movie:)...a shame so many of these spots are falling by the wayside...a lot of people would still enjoy them, the baby-boomers for sure...a good capture of what remains of this one...what memories it must hold for those who once attended.

I have never been to a drive-in movie but I can imagine how nice it could be. This is what remains of a once popular place of entertainment. It will make a good entry for the contest Tick.

The movie must have been 'National Velvet' old mate...because those paddock fencing rails look a lot similar to our 'Horse Racing Fences' .. This looks totally 'British' too...lol

I think this would be a very good entry for the contest, and I remember the drive in's very well. My mom would pop a huge bag of popcorn, before leaving for the movie, and put it all in large brown shopping bag, memories! Tigz=^..^=

I have a similar memory to Sandi - home made popcorn in a large brown grocery store bag with little spots of grease on the outside from the butter - a very long time ago - I remember that one of the movies we saw was "Ben Hur". Now I'm lucky if I remember a movie I saw last year! LOL An excellent one Tick and it obviously touched everyone's memories.

Yes, I remember the magic of the drive in's as well. Some people wouldn't around today if it weren't for them. Good luck in the contest.

I remember making out most of the night at our local Drive Inn.
The girls use to call me a Puckering Fool. I guess that was good? What say you? My Mom use to ask...."Was the Movie Good"?
I'd Say, "Yeh,.... it was a Love Story".
Really brings back memories Tick.
