From the top of its towers, the fortress of Bolsena with a charming view of the lake and the whole city, its construction dates back Duke of Orvieto, which, at that time, had held the lake town. In 1334 he became mayor Hermann Monaldeschi, and over the centuries XIV and XV of the Monaldeschi family performed various improvement of defensive works. The domain of Monaldeschi ended in 1451. Enjoy.

Beautiful architecture! I wonder, are there any people living in this castle? Is it touristic place?

Ed, you never seem to run out of fascinating and beautiful hilltop scenes to delight us with; with such interesting histories, too. Keep them coming, I say.

Ed, your narrative is already very interesting and impressive, but I think when this castle could tell its own story, we would listen to it with an open mouth. Thanks for a wonderful image again from your bella Italia, my friend.

Beautiful scene. Must be people living there as I see flower boxes in a couple of the windows.
