Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri, on November 30, 1835, to a Tennessee country merchant, but, Virginia City could be considered the "birthplace" of Mark Twain, as it was here in February 1863[5] that writer Samuel Clemens, then a reporter on the local Territorial Enterprise newspaper, first used his famous pen name. While visiting my brother on the 4th we went to Virginia City to where author Mark Twain worked for the Territorial Enterprise during the 1860's. Here is a desk that was used by him during his tenure there.More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_City,_Nevada

Good shot of a great old desk Bruce. All those cubby holes to put things in would be great.

Looks both typical and fascinating... I can easily imagine Clemens sitting there scribbling away (when he probably was supposed to be working in his reporter job).

Both a historical and nostalgic image Bruce. Very interesting narrative as well.

Neat shot. He is from my part of he world.

Now that is one finely constructed desk well worn and used by a master storyteller. A good capture of the scene Bruce and as can be seen from the link, you didn't have a lot of room to work from. Great posting and narrative. Thanks for sharing.

This is great, Bruce! The history, to be able to feel the craftsmanship of this old desk, the aroma of old paper and leather bindings, and the best of all... to know that Clemens actually sat at this very desk! Wonderful capture, and thank you so much for sharing! :) btw.. your link in the comment section didn't work for me.
