Sculpture by Ron Mueck.
It bothers me what he is looking at - what can he see over my shoulder? Where has he been, how did he get there with no oars and where are his clothes? Is he lonely, is he waiting for someone or something?
Who knows.
Taken with Canon 450D.
Cropped for modesty.

I hope he has a rudder as he looks up the creek without a paddle..I appreciate your cropping..It takes the sting out of the tail..Nice one....R.

I can smell the sunlight on your skin. Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make!

I think this is how we all feel sometimes in life and I think he is looking for someone to save him.. A great photo, and the sculpture looks very real.

Answers :
1. There is a shark circling the boat (and you).
2. He was trying to reach Cook Islands with the row boat, lost the oars and drifted somewhere near to Dunedin.
3. He used even his trousers as an SOS signal but lost it in bad weather.
4. He is very lonely and is waiting to be rescued by a fair lady. LOL!!! Nice image Lyn.

Lyn, this image reminds me of your two previous posts of Ron Mueck's work: 'Beauty' and 'Two Women'. It's a great artist and you've put him in a worldwide spotlight with your high quality images. Very well done.

I couldn't help but think of an old Red Foxx line from one of his standup comedy routines. Someone asked him what he was doing in the boat with them oars. He answered, "Those weren't oars, they were my sisters."
I hope that didn't offend anyone.
At first I thought you had taken a shot of a real person LE. :)
Good post.

It is slightly unnerving, especially when staring out from an open desktop in the evening. Add in a good storm with some whistling wind and it might even get creepy.

I can see why you were drawn to the exhibit. Fascinating life like work. Excellent details and crop of your photo. This one feels haunting in many ways.

Creative cropping there, Lyn. 8P Perhaps he's looking askance at your camera, wondering if his condition may someday appear in, oh, I don't know, a museum perhaps?
