This is the harbour wall from where I took This Picture of the fish.
I was soon joined by these little Zebra Doves that abound in Honolulu along with their relatives, the larger Spotted Dove.
They are extremely tame and will feed from your hand.
You will notice two of them have deformed feet. We saw some that were missing a whole foot. This is caused by avian pox or 'bumble foot' introduced when mosquitoes were brought to the islands in the 1800's. It is a serious threat to Hawaii's native forest birds who have no natural immunity to it.

We have a pair of mourning doves who've lived in our yard for years. They don't have the beautiful striping of these zebras but their soft cooing call is quite soothing as these devoted-for-life birds sing to each other. The world has such diversity and wonder in its wildlife, it distresses me whenever mankind decides to interfere or, as in the case of our so-called "president", simply doesn't care. I really like this photo, Lyn. Thank you.

They are new to me Lyn, I love their markings. I spotted a Downy here in my yard that had deformed beak, it was long, and curved, and she had deformed feet. She was around here for about a month at feeder last year. tigs=^..^=

Fine specimens. We don't have many pigeons here. mainly Ibis, seagulls, and assortment of other tropical birds.

Theory of evolution? Flying zebras? Strange but nice looking birds and a good capture of them.

I wonder how many people really notice when a species is going through a change LE. Your photo makes us think.
I really like their markings.

Fine capture of these tame Zebra Doves, Lyn.

Very interesting too to read about the avian pox introduced by mosquitoes.
Something comparable has happened in my area. The Zeeland oysters (a delicacy) were almost destroyed by the far larger Japanese counterparts, whose seeds were transported at the bottom of seagoing vessels that had visited Japanese ports.
