Have you ever smelled it, though? While it is an attractive plant, Skunk cabbage gets its name from the fact that, when the leaves are crushed or bruised, it gives off a smell of skunk or rotting meat. While it repels humans, that smell is like perfume to bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial insects. If you're having a hard time attracting pollinators or beneficial wasps, mixing a few skunk cabbage plants in with the rest of your garden may be a good solution. Skunk cabbage also repels many mammals, so it can be useful if you have a problem with four-legged vegetable thieves like raccoons and squirrels.

I am familiar with this plant and tho' they do give off an unpleasant smell, they have a beautiful unique flower, which I have not seen before...a terrific capture of these with lovely lighting.

---Bad Name---

A plant of the arum family. It's said that its flowers have a distinctive unpleasant smell. Think by the title that you've proved that this was untrue, Raj, ☺ .
Good one with perfect lighting!

A bright and lovely photo with excellent contrast and clarity.
I don't want them in my garden though ! It is a new one for me.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
