Long Day's Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill

It wasn't the fog I minded, Cathleen. I really love fog. [...] It hides you from the world and the world from you. You feel that everything has changed, and nothing is what it seemed to be. No one can find or touch you any more.

In the fog of nowhere by Drin Tashi

Blury you,
in the fog of nowhere.

I keep trying to focus,
but you seem to fade away.

I try to yell but I can't,
I try to run but I can't.

Yet, you seem to fade away,
in the fog of nowhere.

88 Poems by Ernest Hemingway

For we have thought the longer thoughts
And gone the shorter way.
And we have danced to devils' tunes, Shivering home to pray;
To serve one master in the night,
Another in the day.

A beautiful contrast between the glowing sky and the fog covered land below and a lovely poem to go with it John.

Your narrative is very complimentary to this splendid image, John, making it to a wonderful post.
S+F instantly. Thanks for that, my friend!

Ground fog... saw some just last night... love how it slowly invades an area, growing, spreading, inviting photographers.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Nature gives us much beauty - glad you saw it, enjoyed it, and captured it to share.

I particularly like the Ernest Hemingway poem, Shads. I can't help but think there is a golfer in there somewhere trying to find his way.

First and foremost..

+favs for me.

Now, then..

Just sharing some thoughts in what is to follow, John.

Downloaded and played around with your image here, on the note of trying to open up the shadows some. Now, it could be that your artistic aim was to keep/preserve the shadows.. so that the trees stood out as 'sentinels' in amongst the fog and that of the field.

However.. here are the results of taking your image into the Photoshop sandbox:

"Fading Away - Shadows/Highlights Adjusted"

... using philcUK's tutorial; "Faking the HDR thing..".

To my eyes.. now.. that prominent tree in the left-hand side stands out even more. And in turn, underscores the strength of your composition that much more as well.

Just that lil' more delineation and separation from the rest of the trees.

I will concede that this was a quick n' dirty job on my part, and may have taken things a bit too far, looking at the edited version more critically.

Adding in, that when it came to the Curves adjustment step from philcUK's tutorial.. it was possible to bring back some more of the contrast and not have muted the wonderful colours of the sky.

Or, perhaps.. even better yet.. simply made a selection eliminating the sky from any further post processing/editing.

But.. as mentioned above.. just sharing some thoughts here, typing out loud.

Suffice to say, as I am wont to say at times..

Drawing your viewers in and stimulating their thoughts and examination of your image is intended to be a sincere compliment.

Nothing more.. nothing.. 'les's.

;o)

Thanks for sharing this one with us.
