This is not a picture of common house. Depicted however is a 'Gruppenunterstand commandobunker type 621' (Group accommodation commandobunker type 621).

It was used in WW II by the German forces that have occupied The Netherlands. It was a, so called, 'Atlantic Wall' bunker (If you like to know more about the 'Atlantic Wall', please check-out THIS LINK).

In order to camouflage the bunker, it was integrated with the adjacent houses, complete with painted windows, brick motif and a fake roof.

When I saw it the first time, I was deceived by it because of its appearance and thought that I had found a suitable entry for Manic Monday. But after being aware of its history, I've changed my mind. A still too serious subject for a grin!

Very clever but the allies weren't fooled...You can see the Lady in the window Isn't real and when the Commandos tried to smash the glass they were in for a surprise....A good one for Monday...R.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Certainly a special post for 'MANIC' Monday....I believe the word in those days would be 'Panic'..

A very colourful house 'bunker' which has a history!

I would be suspicious if the woman at the window didn't move at all :) Nice capture and a good one for m. Monday Cornelius.

What a neat find, and very interesting, but I do think the stillness of the woman would be a giveaway. tigs=^..^=

It is a grim subject SEA, but it is something that happened in History and the story needs to be told--if for no other reason then to make sure it doesn't repeat itself.
Thanks for the history lesson.

This was very clever of them to use part of the surrounds to make it seem to fit in. It definitely isn't something to grin about. Wonderful colours and thanks for the 2 links.

At first glance it looks a happy tranquil picture. What history it holds. Thanks for the information Cornelius.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Oh, man, that gets me right where I live... I'm an unofficial WWII historian and I knew about our efforts to fool the Germans with inflatable tanks and other weaponry, but I didn't know about the Germans own efforts along the same lines. I would love to see this "in the flesh", so to speak. Very cool and mega-thanks for finding, photographing, and submitting it, C. S&F!!!
