Veterans Day - This is a tribute to all the veterans of all the wars on this day. THANK YOU all for your pain, sacrifice, courage, and honor in your duty to your country. I would like you to meet my father Frank Walter Warmbier, this picture was taken in roughly 1945 at Tinian Island in the pacific. My dad (second from the right in the light pants) is standing with some of his buddies during his tour of duty in the navy. He died in 1981 of cancer but I just wanted you all to know he was a fine man, husband, and father to all of us 6 kids. This is a very old original photo I just lightened and sharpened it a little because I wanted to keep it's integrity. I would like to thank Russ (heidlerr) for the idea. Thank you for your indulgence and no comments are needed. Franks boy.........John S. Warmbier

I know you said no comments John, but just wanted to say lovely tribute to your father and all the men who served in any wars to save their countries. My own father was a royal marine commando on the beaches of Normandy. He also died of cancer 5 years ago and I am one of 7 children. Your narrative could well have been my own and touched me. thank you for sharing your tribute. Patti

Nice tribute John. Because of men like your Father and his buddies, we enjoy a free nation. I truely believe that they might have been the greatest generation. Thanks for allowing us to meet your Dad. I know you're very proud of him and we are too.

A wonderful tribute, John. I love these old photos. My father-in-law was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941 and my dad insisted on going into the army even though he had lost one eye as a child. They kept him off the front and gave him the job of medic, but he was determined join up as were a lot of young men including two of my uncles, one who lost his life in Italy and the other lied about his age to go. These men gave much as the young men and women today give much to the jobs they fill. I just wish our armed forces could always be just for protecting us and nothing more as was intended.

A wonderful tribute to your dad John. We have so much to be thankful for and the many to thank. I love to hear the testimonials of children of these many brave men and women. You should be very proud of him, as we are. Excellent post.

A great tribute and reminder John.
It has also encouraged me to think about sorting out some similar pictures I have. My Dad was in the Merchant Navy and for many years as a child I though he had won the war :)
I am still as proud of him now as I was then, and wish he was still here for me to tell. I never did.

wow... Thank you for posting it... Brought some memories of my grandma's tales: She and her mother had to stay in St. Petersburg during the 900 days of the blockade... She would tell me stories about those days... And I'm glad that you keep photographs like that, and even more glad that you're posting them.

Hi John, my warm words are sent to you for sharing this 'great' photo of your father and the principles he stood for, with us! How very proud you must have been to have known him as you did, as a wonderful father, husband, and especially to have lived a life that taught you how to live, in order that you become the special person you portray to be! My congratulations to both of you! Together, both you and your father are truly an asset to our grand Society throughout! I think that most men, because of their fathers, will help to groom our future destiny, and for this I award them as well, and say Thank You! Sincerely, Marilyn
