Rimrock, Arizona, USA. From the top of the sinkhole, looking east, it is evident that the arsenic in the water has not deterred vegetation. A few minutes after this photo was taken, a heron perched on the flat rock in the upper left, thought wisely did not swoop towards the water. Beneath the trees at the other end of the well are remnants of rock dwellings built into and out from the rock wall.

Love that you also got the cactus in the foreground and it was ready to bloom as well. Fascinating area.

Love the cacti in the foreground Thad. So much to look at and enjoy. People now pay big bucks to have a condo on the cliffs overlooking the water.

Impressive and wonderful sight, Thad, but not that inviting for a swim, ☺ .

The plants in the water here have probably adjusted to life in toxic conditions, much like the life at the bottom of the ocean, that lives off the chemical ecosystem created by hydrothermal vents. Anywhere else at that depth and they die off.
