I guess right next to the Old Gaol in York, Maine was the perfect place for this cemetery to be situated. I asked a friend to review this pic for me and this answer is going to be my narrative for it was put so well.

"...The light that everyone says they see when they have a near-death experience is represented by the golden tree. The matter of factness of death in the tombstones; and finally, the reality: no matter how beautiful (the leaves), all things will die."

You know honey, it's amazing how cemetaries always seem to give out lovely colours at any time of the year!!....Fabulous colours and well caught!...I wonder if the 'inhabitants' helped out with this?...lol..

i think the time off recharged your batteries very well. i like the vertical aspect of this one. isn't it great that the tombstones are a bit tilted. gorgeous color in the vegetation.

Very good PJ. Your friend left out the hanging tree that helps anchor the scene. lol. It is beautiful.

I agree with Jen about your batteries. I had to take mine out of my camera when I shipped it. lol

Ah, yes, the narrative is quite true, but may I add that the leaves return to the place from where they came as do we. Wonderful lighting on this scene, PJ. All those fallen leaves must have come from the large tree in the foreground. I see that the yellow leaved trees are more tenacious in keeping their leaves to the last. Those gravestones are very old from the looks of them, so thin and leaning over.
Nice shadows and wonderful color. A wonderful find well captured for our enjoyment too.

Beautiful colours and very wel lit. Seen lots of graveyard pics but never one like this. Gravestones looking very old and to and with all the trees the cemetery seems to be getting swallowed up by the forest. Great image.

I cannot add more than Sandi has said above that it is a wonderful image. The mix of light, colour and composition is fantastic. I think Brahms summed up in music what your friend said, very eloquently in words with THIS movement of his Requiem, "Denn alles Fleisch, es ist wie Gras".

I like the commentary; although I'm not sure it's the light of a near-death experience for me, more the light of hope and life even in the shadow of death. A nice post PJ, with terrific autumn colours and some interesting juxtapositions.
