I found this very interesting about C.M.Bell, Rob. I'm sure he would be pleased with your restoration project. I know all of us at Caedes find it fascinating.
By the way, I think Waulicomo had a famous relative that turned out to be a great singer. His name was Perricomo.

Rob, I was smiling to a certain extent about Tick's original and/or funny comment/approach about the not probably relationship between the American singer Perry Como, with Italian roots (his parents emigrated to the US in 1910 from the Abruzzese town of Palena, Italy) and the native American Waulicomo.
It's strange to me that Waulicomo was wearing these clothes while portraying him. I suppose that by wearing his original clothes, his portrait would have been more authentic and impressive.
I've no doubts however about the by you used technique for colorization and editing. Top notch work per usual, my friend!

Tick's info about the visits to Washington make this more interesting. I think he looks proud but a little uncomfortable in the strange clothes. The subtle tones you have used are perfect - he would be delighted to have seen this.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Colorization brings out so much here, excellent work. He looks proud and intelligent and the eyes are riveting. Favorite for me.

WAULICOMO

Well let us break the name down into its parts to determine its meaning. Wauli or Wally or Wallace (from the German) means "peaceful ruler", and Como, traditionally a medieval surname, is interpreted as coming from the word "akev", meaning a heel, but has also been interpreted from the Hebrew as "he who supplanted". Both of these meanings are influenced by the biblical story of Esau and his younger twin brother Jacob. Jacob is said to have been born holding on to Esau's heel, and took advantage of Esau's hunger to persuade him to part with his birthright "for a mess of pottage", which is a soup or stew. (It's also a zoo in Minneapolis but that's another story altogether.) So, loosely translated I would say that while this gentleman looks like a proud Native American, he's actually gentle and peaceful (in appearance only!) Wally Cleaver, who changed his name after taking the place of his younger and exceedingly gullible brother, "The Beave (Beaver)", as the favorite and ascendant member of the Cleaver clan, by the clever development of a stew, spiked with a hallucinogenic drug that pushed the elder Cleavers, Ward and June, irretrievably into senility, allowing the clan takeover by the crafty Wallace... or was it... WAULICOMO?!?!?!?

But if that's not it, Rob, then... I got nothin'.
