Ted, when I read your narrative, I thought of the Amsterdam (The Netherlands, aka Holland) light festivals of which you can see several images in my gallery. There too, many of the exhibited objects change light and/or color. With a photograph it's difficult to get a correct impression of it. In order to get a more proper impression, the viewer has to use his imagination.
Anyway, you've provided us with another great Lantern Festival entry, 👍 !
If you think you can't accept something, try to change it. But if this doesn't work, don't be frustrated, but give it later another try. The one who perseveres wins!

There is seemingly no end to the things those folks can create with these lanterns. As Sandi says, as good as these are, I cannot imagine seeing them "in the paper", so to speak.
