This is my entry for the 'Primary colors - RGB' contest.

Depicted are self providing sea lane buoys. The electricity for the lamp on top of the buoy and the horn of the buoy is provided by a solar cell panel charged battery (the first for shining the lamp in nightly conditions and the latter for the sound of a horn in case of foggy conditions). Each buoy is provided with a radar reflector too to make it better visible on radar. For 'stationkeeping' they are anchored at their intended spot at sea.

These buoys play a major safety role in maritime traffic.

In order to continue this role in a proper way they will be tested and are in need from maintenance from time to time. Therefore they are stored now on shore at a square just in front of the maintenance work place.

Obviously, they have been replaced by a 'stand in' when 'parked' on the shore.

Mr C, a very interesting capture. I had no idea they were so large or that they were routinely collected and brought back to port for maintenance. Thanks for the post.

The look very bright and cheerful and of course are a very important aid to safety. You captured them beautifully

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

It looks like they scraped the sides to remove any debris attached to the buoy. I've watched the Coast Guard remove and replace buoys and it looks like a good peaceful job.

At first I thought perhaps these were the uniforms of the Queen^s Guard, in the new opera based on Lewis Carroll^s Alice in Wonderland.
