Depicted is the Koningin Astridplein (Queen Astrid Square) situated in the center of the Belgian city of Antwerp.

When one leave one of the entrances of the Central Station (the North entrance) one will arrive at this square. Around the square one can see historic facades that are interspersed with modern versions, various catering establishments, shops and a few terraces.

This used to be a square with allure, where train passengers, visitors to the adjacent zoo and the banquet halls walked past. A French-style garden had been laid out in the middle of the square. In 1935 the original name Statieplein (Station Square) was changed to Koningin Astridplein, in honor of the recently deceased Belgian Queen Astrid.

We have buildings in our downtown that were built in the era of our civil war. You have building created near the time of our country's birth. Just and amazing place you live in. So filled with history and beauty.

"This used to be a square with allure"

So does that mean you feel it has lost that allure a bit because of the incursions of modern architecture, C? Having developed a strong appreciation of historic architecture myself, over the past 40 years and through my career, I can identify with that feeling, although, as someone not at all familiar with this place, I do find it quite inviting and interesting, brought on, of course, by your photographic presentation, top-drawer as always.

What I do find aesthetically offensive is the crane but, as a multi-decade photographer, I also know that visual interruptions are everywhere. Like mosquitos. Or politicians.
