Depicted is the Koningin Astridplein (Queen Astrid Square) situated in the center of the Belgian city of Antwerp.
When one leave one of the entrances of the Central Station (the North entrance) one will arrive at this square. Around the square one can see historic facades that are interspersed with modern versions, various catering establishments, shops and a few terraces.
This used to be a square with allure, where train passengers, visitors to the adjacent zoo and the banquet halls walked past. A French-style garden had been laid out in the middle of the square. In 1935 the original name Statieplein (Station Square) was changed to Koningin Astridplein, in honor of the recently deceased Belgian Queen Astrid.
