I spent the entire day (Sunrise to Sunset) Saturday with some friends watching the cranes. We also did a bit of shopping at a resale store. and also found a great place to eat, and both were a short drive from this area. The eatery was one of those places where the locals hang out, and know the owner, and girls that work for her. When you walk in, not sure where to sit? no problem, you will be invited to join others at their table, where you can sit and have a good meal, and engage in pleasant conversation.

The day was long one, as it's a 90 minute drive, and I only managed a few usable shots that I have found so far, but so worth it.

The crane numbers were estimated to be around 12,000, and we were treated with a beautiful sunset. The moon was actually behind us, so no crane in front of the moon shots.

I appreciate your comments, thank you. I used the Nikon D500 with the Nikkor 80-400mm lens.

you've gotten quite well with that Nikon my friend, Splendid! indeed

oh yeah, i would love to see your reactions with just 3 of these birds in your yard, it wouldnt be the 500D you would use to shoot...once you see the damage they do...lol however, protected here in Michigan, so i let Bo show them the way out.

Faved this beauty Tigz. they look great silhouetted against that golden sky. I suspect the locals were glad to meet some strangers.

It's interesting to see that they fly in a "V" as well; I was not aware that they did that. I've seen your older photos of Sandhills and, while good shots as well, your newer equipment really struts it's stuff here. Their silhouettes are small but very sharp and instantly recognizable. [somone said "little" birds? Oy! I've seen some here in North Dakota that are as tall as me.]

Gorgeous sky and I like that 'V' formation you managed to capture.

You may have managed not many usable shots but quality overrides quantity and this is Quality with a capital Q !!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

That sky is marvelous and provides such a wonderful background for the cranes.
