Yesterday late afternoon I took a friend to see the Snowy, in the hopes she would be there. As you can see here she was, and almost in the same spot, there is lots of open space on either side of the road, which offers her a great hunting ground.

Here are a few facts about this beautiful bird.

Their diet consists of small rodents, large hares, and small to medium sized songbirds, and unlike most owl species, they hunt in the daytime.

Height: up to 27 inches, Length 20-27 inches with a wing span of 5.5-5.5 feet. Weight 40-70 ounces, male are smaller than the female.

Lifespan The oldest snowy living in the wild was recorded to be 9 years-5 months. A captive snowy lived for at least 28 years.

I used the Nikon D750 with the Nikkor 80-400 mm lens, and approached a bit closer this time, but wanted to respect her space, and not scare her off. My friend Shelly was using binoculars and when she saw her look my way she yelled out to me, so I stopped in my tracks, and did not go any closer. She was across the road from me once again.

I appreciate your comments, thank you!

I feel this is one of those rare photo opts, that probably won't happen again. tigs=^..^=

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Great capture and you took full advantage of the opportunity Tigz. These are the moments that make all the others worthwhile.
Congrats on a great photo. Hopefully you sent it to your local newspaper.

As good as that first one was, this is even better; besides being closer you've gotten her with more light on her so we get to see all those beautiful spots on her feathers. Nice. Very nice.

This one is even better than the first one, Sandi.
Very rare that one has twice a 'once in a lifetime' photo opportunity, my friend. Very special. Kudos!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
