I paid a visit to the garden yesterday, and sat and waited for this hummer, I took many shots over the course of an hour, he would come about every 10 minutes. Not sure if I have any more useable ones, but at least I have this one. :)

I used the Nikon D500, with the Nikkor 70-200mm lens focal length 170mm, aperture of f/3.2, ISO 1600, metering center weight, shutter speed 1/8000 sec.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

That was a long wait and many clicks but finally you got a good one with the wings shown clearly. Considering the speed at which those wings were flapping this is a great shot. What was your shutter speed ?

What an exceptional capture Sandi - to get those wings still I too am curious about your shutter speed.

I saw my first live hummingbird, ever, by accident, last summer in my side yard. The south side of my brick home is covered by grape vines and another vine with bright orange, cone-shaped flowers, just the sort of thing, apparently, to attract hummingbirds. So, if I keep an eye on those blossoms this year, and are patient enough, I might be able to get my first photo of one of these delightful little guys. Of course, I be happy just to capture one, realizing I have a long way to go to achieve the perfection you have with your gear and experience with birds, Sandi. I do have a 55-250mm lens and my 24mp Canon can achieve shutter speeds up to 4000, so although I may not be able to freeze the wings of a hummer, I'll come close... I hope. This one's a wowzer. S&F.

Very apt shutter speed for this very tiny critter, Sandi.
Taking into account that its wings are moving incredibly fast, it's amazing to me that you've have provided us almost with a still life, ☺ . Excellent result, my friend. Thanks for your patience!!

Beautiful picture, lovely flowers. We don't have these birds, but I can imagine how difficult it is to take their picture.
