Monitor Calibration brphoto 08/04/04 8:52 AM GMT As many people comment on the colors of images here, those who haven't already, should consider calibrating their monitors. That way, if an image is red; everyone will see the same red, not pink or burgundy (or any number of thousands of shades in between). Monitors need to be properly calibrated and profiled to accurately display color and tone. Monitor Calibration mtnman 09/07/06 1:12 PM GMT Sorry if this is out of scope for this forum, but I'm trying to calibrate my monitor prior to working with my photos in PhotoSuite Elements. I'm using the Adobe Gamma to perform this, but am not getting anywhere. The first instruction is to crank the contrast on my monitor all the way up to 100%, then adjust the brightness to a specific point (in my case, brightness had to be adjusted all the way down to around 20%. Monitor Calibration andermic 10/07/08 2:52 AM GMT Hello. I've recently obtained a new monitor and I'm trying to calibrate it as best as I can. So really this is a two part question. :) Firstly, how do you calibrate your monitor, especially if you're a college student with little to no money. I've been using "calibration" images to get everything set up as best I can, but I'm wondering if the color cast of my monitor is off a bit, can't really tell. Right now I have the colors set to 6500K and the contrast/brightness are all the way up because http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=2362456
Screen Calibration philcUK 02/06/06 4:17 PM GMT Pantone have launched a new calibrator at the budget end of the scale called the Huey (unfortunate name I know but what can you do) I have tried out a prelaunch model and it worked very well indeed, it's cross platform and can calibrate either LCD or CRT. you can find mode information on it here. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=632538
Screen Calibration kjh000 10/27/05 7:42 AM GMT I've discussed this in the past with some of you and revived my thoughts about it in a series of PMs with a friend here. I submitted an image I made yesterday, called B&W Calibration. This image will not help with the sorry business about setting colors per se on screens for obvious reasons... ^_^ My hope is that it could help in setting the right level of brightness or in other words, white and black point. ePaperPress has got a great page on the subject. Monitor calibration miran 07/09/07 6:20 AM GMT How many people calibrate their monitors? In the caedes.net gallery and the comments I notice many people think some of my (and others') photos are too bright or have low contrast or bad colour saturation while I find a lot of other photos too dark. Many of them belong to said people. Could it be that I calibrated my monitor wrong (I followed instructions on a site I can't find right now) or do most people simply not calibrate their monitors at all? Monitor Calibration cynlee 11/20/10 3:53 PM GMT Can anyone explain how to calibrate a PC monitor without buying an expensive piece of equipment to do it? I find that images are much darker on my Samsung 22inch monitor than they are on my husband's Toshiba laptop and I have used the install CD for the Samsung to alter the settings, but even with brightness set to 100, the images are still too dark. I would like to edit in photoshop and be able to share it with others without the brightness and etc being all messed up on their monitors. What Colour Temperature is your monitor set to? purmusic 10/13/10 6:34 PM GMT Default setting of mine? 9300K. Right, so? What's that mean, if anything at all? "To get the best results from your monitor, it is important to understand the steps involved. The first is calibration; i.e. setting your monitor to a well-defined, standard state. You need to select a color temperature to work with. PC video cards and monitors are usually shipped with a white point set to 9300°K. This gives a bluish tint to everything. New Monitor...too dark? Camerama 10/25/07 12:19 AM GMT Hi guys, I just switched off to a Mac from my old (and quite dead) PC. The only image I've uploaded so far from it is River. And rightly so, because apparently there had been a heated discussion on a another thread right before mine. So I started trying to think around the problem. Why do pictures get bad votes when they are really not THAT bad. Or why do bad pictures get good votes that they don't deserve? Or mediocre photos, why don't they get mediocre votes? Unable to focus on infinity jeffpratt 08/14/06 11:49 PM GMT I have a Nikon D50 and apparently these new cameras/lenses can focus beyond infinity. With my old film SLR, I used to be able to take perfect pictures of star trails by focusing on infinity. Now if I try to do that, they just turn out blurry. Post-Post Adjustments Nikoneer 12/13/10 7:01 PM GMT To those of you who comment and those of you who post (presumably one and the same), keep in mind that the image you created, either through the use of a camera or computer, that looks so great on your screen when you've finished it and are ready to submit it, may not appear the same way when it reaches it's destination. Colour Changes _SNAPDRAGON_ 10/08/08 7:39 PM GMT Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help me with something. Often when I upload an image, the colour appears significantly faded from the original (it seems to happen more with warmer colours). Subsequently I either leave up an image I'm not 100% happy with or take it down, boost the colour and re-upload it, which is quite frustrating for both me and everyone else (esp. the mods, to whom I sincerely apologise). Stretching, & squeezing of aspect ratios by Caedes gonedigital 10/12/11 12:39 AM GMT Practically everyone crops their photographs when uploaded to Caedes, and occasionally in the past I've noticed that an image of mine has been slightly stretched or squeezed to fit 1680x1050 a popular wide screen ratio. Maintaining Quality caedes 01/08/08 9:53 PM GMT I have to admit that of all the challenges that caedes.net has faced, maintaining a quality inventory of images is the most difficult. Originally, I would only post an image to the site once it had been on my own desktop for a while. This worked well to keep the quality high (at least from my perspective), but it certainly limited the number of images that would go on the site. This is probably the one of the harder threads to think of something to say in, but hey, i kindof want to see if people can think of a bunch of things...also i hope sum1 doesnt really make the invention you said and go an make a patent for it (wouldent that make you happy). 1) Name your invention (it can be one that is already invented). 2) Briefly describe how it would work. (Preferably someth http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=1257252
Photo Manipulation xtalg 10/06/06 5:04 PM GMT I download a lot of pics here. There are so many that I like. I am a wallpaper changing fool, as I love art in many forms. I am probably not the only to do this, but I have to run many, but not all, through Picasa to alter the contrast and brightness, to bring out the true beauty of some. There are many photo editing tools, but Picasa is easy and simple to use and you can, through Picasa, easily and immediately set it as a desktop background. Just a though for those who may not have thought of i http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=1119250
Archives LynEve 07/06/06 12:01 AM GMT Can someone please explain to this dumbo the effects of having our images archived? I am thinking maybe it means no more votes? No further chance of being selected for the permanent gallery? Is time since upload a factor? Thanks :) Eve http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=919136

Glossary Of Terms laurengary 06/13/06 2:32 PM GMT On the FAQ Thread, Tom, =Piner has asked we compile a list of terms pertaining to Photography, CGI, & so forth. When this list of terms & their meanings are compiled, they will then be put in a glossary & added to the FAQ for the benefit of all. This will be especially helpful for the newcomers to our ever growing site, who might not understand some of the terms being so casually tossed around. You can read the FAQ Thread HERE. I'll start us off ..... Abstract Terms Gradient --------- The http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=872272

Never do this... verenabloo 12/30/05 4:52 AM GMT Here is a thought I would love for everyone to take part in.... If you were to suggest there is something to NEVER do, what would it be? (no explanation needed of why). http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=591278
On-site JPG compression of red kjh000 07/21/05 8:16 AM GMT I was a bit surprised a while ago to see that images I made in certain hues of red looked terrible here on caedes while they looked good when I viewed my original files at my comp at home. I found out some new stuff about the on-site compression of files here and made the conclusion that I would be better off submitting uncompressed files instead of my usual attempts to not overload the server with files larger then 500k. That failed too, only showing a small, barely noticeable improvement in http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=434609

The Acronym Game :-) wcladymacbeth 11/23/04 6:40 PM GMT Has this one been done yet? Here's how it goes: a word is posted as an acronym, and the words are used to make a sentence. Mark one of the words in your sentence by typing it in uppercase, and that word will be the next acronym. ("of", "the", "and", and similar words may be added) I'll start. CAEDES Creative ART Enters Discussion, Exemplifies Sincerity. There, I made it easy for the next one :-) http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=266943
Trivial things that wind you up philcUK 11/08/04 6:55 PM GMT #1. 'Secret' tracks at the end of music CD's that are normally completely superfluous, catch you off guard and leave you wandering if your stereo is bust during the innordinately long gap. #2. Computers telling you that YOU didnt shut down properly after THEY crashed for no apparent reason. #3. Domestic animal's sanitary habits. #4. Waiters who come and ask you if everything is OK just after you've shovelled a large mouthful of food in. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=258484
Losing Color on Uploads Accipiter 10/22/04 12:40 AM GMT I've noticed that two of the images I've uploaded recently have changed color somewhat and lost overall brightness and saturation. Both shots contain closeups of autumn leaves which are predominantly yellow with patches of red. The original jpegs on my system show well saturated yellows and reds pretty much identical to the leaves I actually shot. However, after upload to the site, the color saturation of the yellow was reduced, the reds had changed to dull brown, and the overall image was less http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=247708
Word Game: Whats on your mind? noobguy 10/08/04 9:46 PM GMT I decided we needed another game so heres one that usually can get some laughs at late night gatherings. (even tho it usually ends up with alot of personal cut-downs and inside jokes o_O) One person starts with a word and you go around and say the first word or phrase or sentence or whatever that jumps into your head. Ex: Dog Cat Housetraining Home is where the heart is (of course real responses would be much wittier) Try to type as fast (without overdoing the rate limit) as you can after seein http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=239207
