New Art Council caedes 06/01/10 12:20 AM GMT I am testing a new feature called the Caedes Art Council. The idea is to take some of the work off the Senate members by allowing more members to decide which images are good enough to include in the "permanent" galleries. The official description of the council is here. Please include any comments, questions, or concerns in this thread. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3004598
Followup to the AC Poll purmusic 10/09/11 9:29 AM GMT Which is found here.. AC Poll. Some suggestions that were put forth on the Poll's discussion thread:i) Members forwarding a personal choice from their galleries for Main Gallery promotion/ Art Council consideration.ii) Limiting the number of nominations by Art Council members for a given time frame.iii) Increasing the number of nominations by Art Council members for a given time frame.iv) Introduce a time delay (appearance of the 'nomination button' on an image's page) before an image is eligible http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3465083
Art Council jeenie11 08/03/11 10:52 PM GMT I've had about 50 or so pictures to vote on in the AC for evaluation. I feel a little uncomfortable about the whole thing because I really do not understand how it works. I'm still reeling from the disappointment of having so many of the pictures in the AC upgraded by the AC and nuked by the mods. Will it continue this way? I'd just like to know how much our votes mean. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3415774
Too many landscapes Samatar 09/04/11 9:49 PM GMT The main galleries seem to be quickly filling up with the same sorts of images... out of 36 images on the first page, 22 are landscape photographs; mainly mountains, lakes and waterfalls. Obviously these type of shots are very appealing but do we really want the main galleries to be so repetitive? Landscapes aren't the only type of shot that seems to be over represented either... if you throw in flowers, butterflies and hummingbirds there seems to be little else that is being nominated/promoted. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3438660
Art Council cynlee 01/23/11 6:28 PM GMT Is the information about how the Art Council works stored in one place on this site? (Question 1)I have some questions that may be addressed there, but I am not sure, so I will ask here.First let me state what my understanding is of how it works.AC members may nominate 2 images for consideration every 7 days.If a percentage of those nominated images never make it to the main galleries, you can be removed as an AC member. You are not obligated to nominate any images.Question 2:Therefore, if you w http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3285226

Art Council: Less Variety? Tootles 12/11/10 2:20 PM GMT Is there less variety coming through from the Art Council than from moderator-chosen images? I hadn't thought (till it was mentioned by others) that such could be the case, but I had a quick look for myself.I looked mainly at the Abstract gallery (being one that interests me personally), focusing on the most recent three pages (108 images in total).Without knowing for sure which images were chosen by mods, and which were chosen by the Art Council, it seems a reasonable estimate that most images http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3254671

C-index system again corngrowth 06/20/10 7:26 PM GMT I'm not that mad! On the one hand great comments for an image (thanks, my friends), but on the other hand a C-index of only 32 by now, for the same image, forces me to consider seriously whether I should quit with Caedes or not. To me it's really a, hard to understand, hypocrite situation. It seems to be that this voting system has become more and more a lottery, everything is possible from surprising good scores on the one hand to very disappointing results on the other hand for even good ph http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3028079

Is Critique Dead? - Part VI purmusic 05/12/10 9:00 PM GMT "Define critique. Discuss the concept of a critique with students. Explain to students that critiques are judgments in which the author gives reasons to support their stance. Make the students aware that the most important element of a critique is the reasoning. There is no right or wrong answer when students critique. Whether a piece of art is strong or weak is all in the eye of the person doing the critique. Social Caedes coram9 08/06/11 7:37 AM GMT The pictures we post on this site are the public face of Caedes. Visitors come here looking for images to adorn their desktops. They do not come here to view peoples holiday snaps being shared between friends, and especially not to see "a picture of someones late mother" a quote from a colleague of mine who happened to see a recent posting. I apologise for his lack of tact in this matter. It similarly applies to pets. Art Council Questions and Ideas animaniactoo 02/24/11 5:23 PM GMT I've been reading through various threads here over the past month as I've been getting caught up and seeing what's going on with the site. The Art Council and the effects of it seem to be one of the biggest issues here. In fact there seems to have been a stampede over in the direction of the Elephant Graveyard.I agree that several of the issues are valid - issues with being able to maintain quality, operating in a vacuum, and the effects of rapid changes which have a negative perceived value (li http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3307606
Censorship third_eye 06/22/06 11:57 PM GMT As I first posted in my comments on an artists work, I'm a little puzzled and concerned. My issue is with, for lack of a better description, the decency standards in the sites Cof C. I understand why they're in place, and will respect them. I respectfully disagree however, on the extent perhaps in which they're enforced. The artwork in question was a pool scene, and it featured Sim-like characters. Promotions & Rejections LynEve 02/20/11 2:57 PM GMT I mentioned in another discussion that one or my notified 'promoted' images was not in fact promoted, or if it had been very soon was not. I said it felt like a poke in the eye. I thought it was just the one.I have since checked my caedes control.Since October 26th 2010 I have had ELEVEN notifications of promotions by the Art Council that either never made it to the Main Galleries or have since been culled. How permanent is Permanent luckyshot 09/09/10 11:25 AM GMT I have had several photos elevated to the permanent collections, but they do not appear in the respective categories within the Main Galleries. Several were visible for a few days, then disappeared. This has occurred with the older procedures as well as with the Art Council selection procedure. It is both confusing and disconcerting. Thus, my question: How permanent is Permanent? Rephrased: What is the real process for work being placed in the main galleries? http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3140757

Suggestion for the use of the RCI column casechaser 07/01/10 11:37 AM GMT Currently on the Control Panel page, there is a column for the RCI. Since this measurement is no longer in use, may I suggest that the space it is occupying be converted to an Art Council (AC) tracking column. My thought is that a * be placed in the column to indicate that your post has been selected for review by the Art Council. Another thought would be to show the number of positive votes your picture has received, much like what the “Favs” column is now recording. It's happened so many times, I lost track. This is why we need access to Geri.I was saying that people should cooperate and talk about and work out problems instead of calling each other names and slinging mud, but that must have been too civil an idea for anyone to put into print.I said that we didn't pose questions because we wanted to make Caedes worse as was sugges http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3618138

I used to be able to and also able to vote on them but the option to do this has disappered. It doesnt appear in the narrtive box like it used to. How Permanent is the Life of a Perm? Nikoneer 12/31/10 9:17 PM GMT I've been looking through the Site Information for a description of the life of an image in the perms without much success. I have some images in the perms now and a few members have told me that they used to have some in those galleries but the number of their images that were permed has dropped. Is being in the perms not actually permanent? Do the mods occasionally go through the permanent galleries and weed out some of those photos? And what would the criteria be for the weeding-out? Changes Needed PhilipCampbell 10/02/10 11:36 AM GMT The person that is deleting the photos out of the Main Gallery should also take the time to contact the members who's picture he is deleting and give them feedback to why it is being deleted. This would be just as helpful and maybe more helpful then any feed back given to members with photos in New Images. I realize that the Art Councel is an idea in testing. I also see the the Permanante Gallerie has been renamed the Main Gallery. I'm sure that name change was done for a reason. But that d http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3170144

Why the AC is difficult. jeenie11 02/17/11 4:31 AM GMT I now have the privilege of voting images as an Art Council member. I am very happy to have this privilege. There are several reasons why this honor is also a difficult situation. Let's assume (this did happen) that a certain image is presented to me. It's one that I think is excellent. So I go to the permanent gallery and see 3 that are just like it. It's hard to say yes, include it (because I think it's good) or no, don't include it (because it's redundant). Caedes has provided me with a wonderful hobby for which I am very grateful. The C-Index was always a helpful scale for me (even if it was at times unfair) to judge the quality of my images. Violence to solve violence noobguy 09/14/04 2:52 AM GMT Attempt to move the debate within the discussion create by Joost here out of respect. I will copy my last post to continue the discussion. I have to point out that, as usual, the people against war, or killing, or violence to solve violence are pretty good at pointing out weaknesses and flaw in plans of war and infiltration. But none of you have offered your own solutions. So ok, we decide to be peaceful, and not go after the terrorists heads. What do we do then. Hmmm, I guess placing them in j http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=223727

No AC Vote jobs LynEve 03/14/12 11:05 AM GMT Approx 2 weeks ago I stopped getting images to vote on.I believe others are experiencing the same.My last 2 nominations gave me an Internal Server Error message, although the nominations appeared to be accepted.Just wondering if there is a database error glitch - there have been no new Main Gallery Promotions for two weeks either.LE http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3568860
Voting on Images LynEve 01/19/12 3:20 AM GMT Is is 'normal' in the AC to be asked to vote on an image you actually nominated yourself?I would have thought that would have been taken as read ?Means I am voting twice for the same image. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3536285

Is something new being done to the AC? cynlee 03/04/11 12:06 AM GMT There haven't been any new images promoted to the main galleries since February 21st. Is the AC in standby or is something being done to revise how that works too? http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3312333
Contest voting etc Samatar 10/29/10 1:41 AM GMT I know there is specific info on how voters for the contests are chosen but I can't find it now... maybe add it to the FAQ? And any other details about the contests (eg how many entries, how to enter etc). Alternatively this info could go in the header on the "contests" page. http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3216754
Linking Yes or No votes in the CAC to commenting on the photo you vote on. No comment, no vote registered. Mythmaker 10/20/10 5:15 PM GMT Thinking about the new nomination and voting process for the CAC/Perms. Is there any way (Software wise.) to make it mandatory for someone voting on a nominated image to make a comment on the photo? Just a thought. If someone votes yes or no, which the mods will obviously know, and that vote can be measured against what the voter SAYS about the image and what the Mods consider is true about the image, that might make the process of weighing "fair and consistent" voting patterns a bit more st http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3208350
Main Galleries discrepancies LynEve 09/11/10 3:25 PM GMT Am I being unreasonable to be dissappointed that these images are archived ? I would also be sincerely grateful for any critical comments regarding their quality/faults/failures I am not claiming or complaining that these photos SHOULD be promoted but that there are many others from many members that deserve promotion more than family photos and c-i's of 10. I know it is petty to complain about archived images - but I do find it very discouraging when I see images with C-indexes of 10 in the M http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3143783
Wallpaper Search... doesn't find new images! Resolved! My problem! Con_ 09/07/10 6:40 AM GMT Hey Geri... The Wallpaper Search seems not to find new images! I tried searching for two different New Images with no luck other than bad! My first try on a Main Gallery image was successful! Is this a feature, a bug or slip of the ??? Of course I really feel I know the answer since the New Images were only recently pulled out of the Main Gallery! :o) http://www.caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Board::Topic&id=3137174
Must I always request? Ramad 08/23/07 9:57 AM GMT When I started posting photos about 15 months ago, a picture that I posted the day before could be seen still on the 2nd or 3rd page (12 or 15 to a page) the next day. Today four hours after posting a photo it is already on the 4th page. The number of postings have more than doubled, it seems. My point is this : I have the impression that unless you belong to a clique your photos won't be commented so much. Many newcomers post their photos but do not bother to comment on any photos. Is it sane that so many kids with learning problems ( Or other "disabilities") are medicated with Drugs? tommy62 08/09/05 8:54 PM GMT http://www.adhdvideo.org/SchoolPsychiatry250.asf For the ones who disagree about medication to kids with learning problems or other social related problems..LOOK at it!!!!! I really hope that people will engage themselves in this because it can be your kid/s who will be next in this circus. ADHD are mostly medicated with Ritalin which is a class 2 drug according to the Drug Enforcement Administration, which is the same class as cocaine and amfetamine.Do i need to say more?
